I began my political career shortly after my father's passing, inspired by the desire to continue his legacy. In 2014, I joined my father's party, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and contested in the Provincial Council election for the Western Province, where I received the highest number of votes. Later that year, in November 2014, I joined the opposition camp in support of Maithripala Sirisena during the presidential election. Following his victory, I was appointed to the central committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
In the 2015 General Election, I joined the United National Party’s list in Colombo to oppose Mahinda Rajapaksa’s nomination for the UPFA. I was elected to parliament from the UNP in that election, leading to my dismissal from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party due to my choice to contest with the UNP. On October 18, 2017, I was appointed as the UNP organizer for Ratmalana by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
